Hi Folks,
I purchased Swift DZire (VXi) last week; I don’t have four wheeler driving license yet so I decided to apply for Learner’s license.
First I called agent to know the charges and I am shocked after listening agent charges, he told me 200 Rs. for learners license and 900 Rs. for permanent license, at the same moment I decided to apply for license on my own.
So I started investigating on net and found few useful information and links.
In further investigation I found that there is facility for filling Learner’s license form online and in the same form you can schedule a date for written test also.
The best part I found is RTO office is closed on Second and Fourth Saturday only, so I booked my written test on third saturday.
Hope this information is helpful for you, wish me good luck for my written test

Hi,
I used online application before and had very bad experience.
Suggesting you not to waste your valuable time.
Vijay
Got the Learning License last Saturday, Vijay you are partially right, there was no preference for the persons having online appointments. But what I like is systematic approach over there, you just need to go through four lines to get LL in hand
Line 1: Document verification by RTO inspector.
Line 2: Fee payment (30 Rs.)
Line 3: Written Test
Line 4: Collect the license (of course if you pass the test)
Prashant,
What’s this deal with the medical certificate? Form 1-A?
Do you need it at the time of filing for a learner’s license or is it only required when you apply for the permanent license?
Can you go to any General Practitioner and get this made or are there RTO approved docs around that you need to visit?
Satish
Form 1 is self medical declaration and Form 1-A is required from medical practitioner in case you are applying for professional driving license (Permit).
In my case (Individual license) they didn’t asked me for the Form 1-A . (This form is not required for Learners as well as Permanent license.)
Hey that’s good to know
Thanks for the info buddy. Appreciate it.
Hi,
I see a practice test system up on the website. Is the written test based on similar lines or is it completely different?
Yes exactly similar, 10 Questions, 1 mark each, passing score 6. All the best
Prashant,
Thanks for your helpfull information for new users.
We embspark Technologies developed one embedded based ” RTO Exam Training system” which is very hepfull to avoid the fear of candidate and mainly awareness of rules and regulation to avoid the accidents.
This will available @various driving schools.
Prashant,
It’s me again
Have you got your permanent licence yet?
It seems that you no longer need to wait for a week after giving your road-test to get the permanent licence.
If you clear the test, I’ve heard, you can get the licence on the same day.
Satish.
Hey, not sure about the same. Yet not got time for permanent license, will let you know once I get the same.
Jaldi kar yaar
mujhe bhi licence banwaana hai!! Hehe!
I’m gonna plan the whole thing based on your wise inputs
Satish.
I also got temporary Licence by paying 400 Rs. to a Broker, and Now he is asking for another 400 Rs, for the permanent Licence, for two wheeler…
is there any Better or cheaper way ?
No need of agent, what agents do for you? They just fill up the form and ask you to stand in queue. Just do it yourself.
Hi,
I have seen a lot of ppl, who dont go through Agent, and end up faving a lot of problem….because RTO inspector will not care for him, as he is too busy in handling agents..
I passed the test drive for permanent licence, and now waiting for Permanent licence to come…as they told it will take 15 days….
Wow, what a day, got permanent 4 wheelers license on last day of learning license expiry
Steps:
1) Reach Alandi RTO early in the morning, official timing 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM (Private license applicants), 2:30 pm onwards reserved for testing school licenses
2) You need to fill up Form 4 for permanent license.
3) Join the queue for filling the license fee (50 Rs. Test fee and 200 Rs. Smart Card fee)
4) After getting a receipt join the queue for registering your name in the register.
5) wait for your turn for test drive, after RTO inspector announces your name, start the test drive.
6) If you passed the test then RTO inspector will sign your form and handed over to you.
7) Submit that form and now you are in waiting mode. After 15 days you will receive your license at the same place.
IMP: Please keep your receipt at proper place
- Till you get your license, your receipt is your license
- You can get your license only after producing your receipt.

Hi Prashant,
I tried to get learning licence today at pune RTO but the response I got was not possitive as I dint approach them through agent. I have submitted all the documents but the RTO officer told me the rental agreement is only notarized and not the registered (at registrar office) one.
Could you please tell me whether the RTO officer is asking the right thing. As if I go via agent to them then they dont want to see any problem in the documents. I have all valid proofs with me though she did not accept my application. If I go for registration at registrar office it will cost me Rs. 1500 extra. So they want me to pay either to registrar office or to agents (Rs 1000) so that they can get bribe from them.
Can you please guide me how to takle with RTO guys in this regard?
Thanks,
Gitesh
